Financial and Operations Business Intelligence Solution
ProLogic helped the client design a data warehouse model and ETL process to import data
from its financial and operations systems. A Windows service automates the imports and
transforms data from Oracle and SQL Server databases and rebuilds the SSAS cubes. The
solution utilizes the Microsoft Business Intelligence suite.
End users can analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by different measures including
line of business, subsidiary, company, rig, time period, and other operational and financial
factors. Reports can be saved and recalled at a future time and exported to Excel® for
further analysis. Figures are presented at a summary level with drill-down capability to
the account group and then further drill-down to the transaction level.
In addition, a number of reports with drill-down capability were created; these reports
previously had to be created manually through combining multiple Excel spreadsheets.
The drill-down capability allows management to quickly see the transactional details behind
each summary figure.
Permissions to view data are defined through membership to a series of roles and association
with one or more business units.
Aggregation of data is definable by the end users, with multiple groupings allowed and
assignable to business units. This allows different business units to see their KPIs
calculated according to their preferred method for their own management use but at the same
time allows corporate management to view multiple entities using an “apples to apples”
comparison. For example, multiple calculation methods are supported for “Operating Revenue”
for individual business units but one standard is defined for corporate reporting.
